I last posted on 2/14, and my grandfather died 4 days later (the 18th, which also was the day before my birthday). In all honestly, the hardest day for me was the 13th, when I received news that my grandfather was no longer being treated for his pneumonia, and that he was only receiving palliative/comfort care. Although I wasn't able to be there, I am grateful for having the opportunity to see him in January and also grateful that my mom, her sisters, and my cousins were all able to be together in support of one another.
The other piece of the update is a bit (quite a bit!) more positive and uplifting, on Feb 24th I received news that I had indeed been "matched" for internship, and that I was placed at my #1 choice! :) This was (and continues to be) very exciting news! It feels satisfying for all of my hard work to have "paid off", and do be "liked" by (at least one of) the site(s) that I really liked. The odd part of this excitement, is that it didn't feel very "exciting" when I first found out (although, the excitement is growing) Rather it was relief: relief that I don't have to move, relief that J. and I don't have to live apart for a year, relief that I can keep all of my same insurance/doctors/etc. It's funny to me how many tiny, little things kept popping into my head as match day grew near (trust me, the list was extensive, and highly amusing! everything from sleeping in my bed to having my furniture, to avoiding rust damage on my car in snowy locations). Amusing as this is, it makes sense to me. The part I wasn't expecting was the sense of disappointment that I will never know how the other sites (primarily my #2, 3, & 4) ranked me, and wondering about the things I won't learn by not being at those sites. Overall though, I am very (!) pleased about the match results, and I'm looking forward to starting in August.

I'm wondering when exactly you start in August and if you have any break before you do start? It might be difficult to make it to the reunion, but I would love to see you if you could come!!
